The Campsite...
Red Rock Wild Camping – or Graig Goch in Welsh – is situated in Margam, Port Talbot, just 5 minutes off the M4, junction 38 (30 minutes from Cardiff or Swansea).
With woodland to the South, hills to the North and Margam Country Park to the West, the site is situated in quiet, secluded and stunning scenery.
Relax and enjoy your stay, if you are planning a short break, a quick getaway with the children or just a peaceful break in the tranquil countryside, then this is ideal spot for you.
Glamping/Camping Pods
Set inside the woodland, there are 4 wooden Glamping/Camping Pods: They are called ‘Richard Burton’, ‘Anthony Hopkins’ (both famous sons of Port Talbot), ‘Miss Talbot’ and ‘Lady Bevan’. All have that ‘wild camping’ feel, with battery electricity provided. Two of the wooden Glamping/Camping Pods are located in the field (‘Miss Talbot’ and ‘Lady Bevan’), whilst the ‘Richard Burton’ and ‘Anthony Hopkins’ pods are located within the woods.
With traditional Welsh lamb’s wool insulation, each Pod is furnished with a sofa bed (for use as a double-bed), plus 2 camping mats for a family of 2 adults and 2 children, to sleep comfortably. Bring your own sleeping bag, pillow or duvet. Lady Bevan is the only pod with a king size bed and bed linen provided.
Outside the pod is your own fire pit and seating area with fairy lights within the trees, to enjoy a drink under the stars. It can be dark some nights, so maybe bring your own torch for extra light.
Campervan / Motorhomes
On arrival at our campsite, you can choose your own camping space, and leave the children to have some traditional outdoor fun; exploring the woodland area, climbing trees, making dens and playing on tyre swings!
The site has a woodland communal fire circle, or you may wish to hire one of our steel camp fires closer to your own camping area, with plenty of opportunity for the children to toast marshmallows and run wild.
We also have a small hard standing area if you have a motorhome. The campsite has 2 fully functional toilets plus a portaloo in the woodland area. In the Summer months, you can also enjoy a hot shower.
About the farm
Our campsite is part of a traditional family farm, rearing quality Aberdeen Angus calves from Hereford Cross cows and a small flock of sheep which lamb in spring.
We have farmed here for over 200 years (originally part of the famous Margam Estate which included Margam Castle and Park). We have only recently diversified into camping; seeing first-hand the benefits of children being outdoors, playing in the woodland areas, away from the iPad and Xbox!
On Our Doorstep...
As we are located on the perimeter of the 850 acre Margam Park (voted among the top-ten most popular parks and green spaces in Britain), with some of the finest deer herds in Britain and the No.4 Sustrans cycle route running though, there are an abundance of walks supporting footpaths into Margam Park and beyond.
Open all year around, Margam Park has a Grade 1 listed Castle, Orangery, gardens, a Fairy-tale Village, Adventure Play Area, and the ‘Chapter House Tree’ (a recent Welsh ‘Tree of the Year’) is a must see.
For older children, ‘Go Ape’ is great fun, and Margam Park Adventure offers canoeing, biking and water sport activities. Fishing facilities are also available.
Toddlers are Free
All children under the age of 3 are free.
